The Bull Ring was a market site for 800 years up to 1964, when a much-criticised shopping centre was built on the location. In 2003 a rebuilt Bull Ring opened. Carl Chinn criticised this new development for its lack of concern towards the market traders who had been the mainstay of the site for centuries. Chinn was also prominent in the campaign for a memorial to the victims of the Second World War Blitz, which was sited in Edgbaston Street in the Bull Ring.
